Side Dish Swap

on September 5, 2012

Getting a healthy meal on the table every night is extremely challenging!  Add in the never-ending tasks of motherhood and it becomes even harder.  That’s why we have started a Side Dish Swap!  Here’s how it works, you make ONE large batch of either a soup, side dish or salad (something that will keep good for a few days).  Then package your food into 4 different 32 oz reusable containers (which Monica will give you).   Be sure to save some for your own family.  Bring the  4 containers to class on Monday morning to exchange.  At the end of the exchange you will have 4 dishes for the week that you don’t have to worry about!   To sign up contact Monica!

Side Dish Swap Q & A
1) What can I include in the weekly food program?  Anything that will fit in a 32 oz container and will hold up in the fridge for a few days.  Some examples: chicken salad, pasta salad, potato salad, kale salad, cous cous, lentils, quinoa, mashed sweet potatoes, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, bean salad, chili, stew, or even sauces like spaghetti sauce, pesto. Try to use organic & whole grain items. (The idea is to have the majority of the food prepared while only having to make staple items at your home, i.e. boiling pasta, baking chicken breast, etc.)
2) What if I’m not a good cook or don’t have anything in mind?  No problem…We have plenty of delicious, quick and easy recipes we can share.  Just email  Ashley or Monica.
3) I can’t even find the time to cook for my own family much less for a group.  We all struggle with this!! That’s what makes this food exchange great.  You make just ONE batch of your favorite food and your friends do the rest of the cooking for you.
4) What if I can’t make Monday’s workout class?  We hope you can join us but if you can’t, you can opt out for that week or bring your food to swap at our Plum Mom’s Club at the Coffee Bean at 9:30am.
